Sou'wester Historic Lodge
February 2024: Artist Residency @ Sou'wester Historic Lodge
Seaview, WA / unceded territory of the Chinook
Excerpt of my thank-you email to Sou'wester staff:
Thanks again for this amazing opportunity - I really appreciated having the time and space to be in nature, to slow down, allow inspiration to take it's sweet time to stew, steep and marinate - for artistic vision to emerge into worldly existence on its own organic timeline. With that, I embraced the power of imagination and moments of magical synchronicity. My creative process was enriched deeply by allowing myself to connect with nature and conduct independent learning (of local history, wildlife, plants, etc) in the area.
It is my sincere hope that whoever encounters my site-specific paper/poetry mandala mobile pieces [each hand-made using washi, watercolor and ink] will take time to explore local trails, learn about local cultures and histories especially about the Chinook community, observe wildlife, deepen appreciation for biodiversity and inter-connectedness of all life*, etc- to connect to the beautiful miracles of life that exist around us (and have been literally for ages) and within ourselves.
It was truly a treat to have uninterrupted solitude for reflection and experimentation in my evolving artistic practice. Thank you all!
*Let us be proactive in honoring, respecting and protecting earth - to nourish her as she has nourished us.
**Below, please enjoy photographic documentation of my pieces created during the artist residency now on display for all visitors at the Sou'wester Historic Lodge.
